‘Building Heroes’ Build People
Earlier this year Mynott Bowers Managing Director Derek Mynott, became a Trustee of a charity called ‘Building Heroes’. It’s a charity that Derek is able to lend his skills and experience, gained from almost fifty years of being in the construction industry.
Building Heroes was established in 2014, and is dedicated to redeploying, and re-training service leavers, veterans, reservists and military families. Whilst also assisting with employment support into a new career in construction. Individuals that join the programme are trained with a broad range of trade skills before being connected with a network of employers. Building Heroes remove the barriers of time and money, and provide welfare support and training leading to job placements in the construction industry.
Derek’s comments on becoming a Trustee for Building Heroes: “Since learning more about Building Heroes, I have nothing but admiration for everyone involved including the new recruits that sign up to the training programme. It must be a daunting task leaving a career you’ve been trained to do all your life and have start from the beginning again. ‘Building Heroes’ supports and guides people back into work which not only provides much needed skilled tradesmen and woman to the construction industry, but also helps people to build self-confidence in their new career.”
On Thursday 3rd October, Derek was invited to attend the Graduation Ceremony for the Building for Heroes Academy. It was held at Building Heroes Training Academy based at Davidsons Homes head office in Ibstock, Leicestershire. Derek enjoyed chatting to some of the graduates about when he first started on his career into construction. He said: “The graduates I got to speak to on the day were clearly very impressed and are recommending the charity to others. I was struck by the very positive mood from all of them about their futures and the start the charity is giving them.”
