Major Transformation to Iconic Heritage Centre in Beverley

Mynott Bowers were recently commissioned to produce the Bills of Quantities for the £3.3million transformation of the Treasure house on Champney Road in Beverley.

The beloved Treasure House operated by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council is set to undergo a significant renovation to transform the existing community hub into an even more exciting and inviting space, providing a more streamlined experience for the community.

The project comprises of modifications to the existing building, to incorporate a ceremonial suite in the old reference library, relocation of existing reference library, new customers services area, extension and refurbishment of the existing library, new reception and reading rooms and new entrance lobby.

The new complex will be known as the Champney Treasure House, after John Champney, a Beverley businessman and benefactor, who made his fortune in the textile industry. He donated money for the Beverley Public Library and in 1929 he bequeathed numerous paintings to the Art Gallery’s collection – mainly works by contemporary British artists.

In addition to the internal remodeling of the building, the project also features newly landscaped gardens that are designed to attract insects and wildlife, making it a welcoming space for all visitors. With the introduction of new seating areas, pergolas, biodiverse lawns, and an array of new plants, the Treasure House project seeks to serve as a central hub for the community and town of Beverley.
