Communities for Later Life: Albourne Retirement Village

84 new homes comprising 34 two-bed extra care cottages, 11 one-bed and 39 two-bed extra care apartments, clubhouse facilities, village shop, parking, landscaping and access following demolition of the existing building.

Mynott Bowers Group were commissioned earlier in the year to complete the Bills of Quantities for the Albourne Retirement Village project in West Sussex. This is just one of many integrated retirement community projects being developed in the UK to help meet the increasing demand of the ageing population.

This extra care development project set on London Road, Albourne, former Hazelden’s nursery, will see 84 new homes built with a mixture of cottages, bungalows, and apartments. The construction of the scheme is estimated to be in the region of £30m

The project consists of High-quality homes and facilities within the complex, such as a fully- equipped gym suite and fitness studio, a local shop, and a library. Within the complex, there will also be an energy centre to help the community to be net zero carbon.

The development will promote a healthy and independent lifestyle for the residents enabling them to have a free-living approach. But also putting their care needs at the heart of the project.

The project will see 12 apartments with 32 units over five detached blocks built. They will include one or two bedrooms, including some having en-suites, and all to include a fully fitted kitchen. It will also see a mixture of one or two-bedroom 38 cottages/bungalow-style homes that will have more of a traditional feel for those wanting to downsize.

The residents will also benefit from the complex having green open spaces.
